Digital Policy Lab: Policy Digest #1

23/11/2021

Policy Digests offer an overview of the latest digital policy developments in Digital Policy Lab (DPL) member countries, including regulatory and non-regulatory initiatives aiming to combat online harms such as disinformation, hate speech, illegal, extremist or terrorist content. In addition to general updates, each Policy Digest provides a snapshot of topic-specific schemes relevant to the upcoming DPL session.

Section 2 focuses on cross-harm threats to election integrity. It provides a snapshot of DPL government approaches to and platform policies on different types of harms threatening electoral integrity. The overview showcases content-related regulatory proposals that follow the principle “what is illegal offline should be illegal online”. In addition, systemic policy approaches pursue an architecture of due diligence obligations, tailored to the risks posed by the systems of the platforms. The overview also includes regulatory and non-regulatory initiatives tackling the role of online advertising as well as threats posed by foreign interference.
