Tim Squirrell: A perceived “status threat” is pushing young men toward misogynistic content

ISD’s Tim Squirrell speaks to The Irish Examiner about the rise in misogynistic content among young men and why this content may actually be an expression of “status threat”. Tim explains how young men today seem to have a fear in losing long-held social standing or privilege. “For a lot of young men, the world is not what it was 50, 25, or even ten years ago.”

“There is a rising current of progressive tendencies around women’s rights, around the rights of LGBTQ+ people and other (marginalised) groups. And so, there is a very real felt sense that the place of men that was once dominant is threatened.”
