How the ‘Big Lie’ conspiracy continues to threaten US democracy

ISD analyst Ciarán O’Connor wrote an op-ed for the Irish Examiner, a daily broadsheet in Ireland, on the lasting effects of Donald Trump’s voter fraud accusations, the ongoing January 6 hearings and how the ‘Big Lie’ theory continues to pose a threat to US democracy— particularly in the coming midterms this November.

“Trump’s lies forged a community united in their unquestioning belief that the election was rigged and they had to act to save their country, culminating in the events of January 6. What’s not clear is whether they have finished the job and that points to perhaps the most consequential threat of Trump’s disinformation”, he says.
