Canadian white nationalists crossed the border to train with US extremists

Members of Canada’s largest white nationalist group traveled to the US to meet and train with the founder of the Active Club movement.

CBC News spoke to Steven Rai, Senior Research Manager at ISD, about the significance of this growing coordination between white supremacist groups on both sides of the border. Steven highlighted that training events, as well as fight tournaments, are increasingly common mechanisms by which white nationalist groups gather to strengthen real-world bonds and build durable infrastructure for the wider movement.

“It’s very significant that we’re seeing Canadians travel across the border,” Steven said. “This shows that this problem of white supremacy is not isolated to Canada alone and that the white supremacist groups in Canada are not operating within geographical silos.”

Steven also warned that these groups “are ultimately seeking to undermine democracy and replace Canadian values with a very strict fascist interpretation of the society they want to achieve.”
