Canadian extremist network used high-profile politicians to amplify their influence

A Canadian neo-Nazi group paid Nigel Farage—a British politician—for a video promoting one of their events.

The video was commissioned by the founders of the Diagolon, an online community promoting white supremacist ideas in Canada. In their coverage of this development, Canada’s National Observer spoke to ISD Senior Research Manager Steven Rai about the strategies of Canada’s extremist movements.

“This is also not an isolated event, but part of a broader pattern in which the leaders of these extremist networks have come into close proximity with high-profile politicians.”

To illustrate his point, Steven cited a widely condemned handshake between a Conservative Canadian politician and a Diagolon member.

“That’s a core part of their playbook — they try to capture these temporary moments of proximity to power and then amplify them to showcase their apparent influence. It’s a deliberately manipulative tactic.”
