The Irish Channel’s use of AI in election denial narratives

ISD’s latest report highlights the role of the Irish Channel, a website and associated social media accounts that have been found to use generative AI to create inaccurate or false articles, influenced by election denial narratives prevalent in the US. ISD Senior Analyst and report author, Ciarán O’Connor, spoke to WIRED about our findings and explained how the Irish Freedom Party is linked to the site, which promotes anti-immigrant conspiracies.

“What you have [with The Irish Channel] is a highly active hub of misinformation across domains, social media accounts, and messaging apps,” he said. “I would see a lot of similarities with the US. And I really think how [US far-right media] was once fringe and has now become the mainstream probably does speak to some of the ambitions or aims of these kinds of partnerships here in this country.”
