ISD’s Guy Fiennes speaks to ABC on the rise of Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiya
Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiya (HAYI), a previously unknown “Islamic Resistance” network, has claimed at least 17 attacks on Jewish, Israeli and Iranian-dissident targets across Europe since March 2026. ISD’s Guy Fiennes spoke to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) about this network, including its motivations and connections to hostile states.
“We know this network is linked to Iran and its proxies,” Guy said. “Most of the perpetrators of these attacks appear to be financially motivated, and some of them claimed not to know who they were ultimately working for.”
Guy explained that foreign governments must take the threat posed by HAYI, and possible copycats, seriously in the future.
“I think foreign governments should be concerned about the phenomenon, and the idea other groups might look at it and think, ‘OK, this tactic works. Let’s copy it.’”
