Analyst
Pablo Maristany de las Casas is an analyst at ISD Germany, where he specialises in pro-Kremlin information threats facing the EU, particularly in Germany, and their links to far-right and conspiracy groups.
His recent work examines the effectiveness of European sanctions on Russian state media and the tactics used to evade them, using social listening and domain investigation methodologies. He has analysed how frequently leading chatbots cite sanctioned, Russian state-attributed sources and information operations, and studied the German far-right’s use of generative AI. His research also explores how Very Large Online Platforms (VLOPs) moderate hateful and extremist content in Spanish, German and English.
Pablo’s work has been featured in outlets such as WIRED, Sky News, POLITICO and Deutschlandfunk. It has also been picked up by news agencies such as Agence France Presse (AFP) or the German Press Agency (dpa), resulting in coverage by France24, STERN or Tagesspiegel, among others. Before his current position, Pablo conducted open-source research for Amnesty International’s Evidence Lab and founded a Digital Verification Corps chapter which he led at the Hertie School, his alma mater.
