Alyssa Kann is a Digital Methods Manager at ISD-US. As part of the Digital Analysis Unit, Alyssa trains staff on open-source intelligence techniques, develops analytical systems and tools to enhance research capacity, and conducts open-source research.
Her expertise and research has been cited in publications like the New York Times, CBS, and CNN. Her data analysis has supported reporting for outlets including the Wall Street Journal, NPR, and the Washington Post. She has trained journalists, human rights activists, and civil society organizations in open-source research methods, including through guest lectures at NYU’s Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute and the University of Maryland’s Philip Merrill College of Journalism.
Prior to joining ISD, Alyssa was on a Fulbright fellowship. She was previously a researcher at the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab. She has also held advisory and fellow roles at other think tanks, writing and editing work related to internet freedom, executive overreach, and authoritarianism. She attended Brandeis University on the Justice Brandeis merit scholarship, and worked as a data analyst at an academic lab.
