Leaked data ties Canadian Armed Forces members to a ‘white-only’ dating site

A CBC News investigation analysed leaked data from the ‘white-only’ dating site and identified profiles linked to active Canadian Armed Forces personnel. The website WhiteDate appears to welcome white supremacist and neo-Nazi members, and has been called the “Tinder for Nazis”—as reported by CBC—with some identified users openly displaying signs of this ideology.

ISD’s Director of Threat Analysis & Prevention, Katherine Keneally, spoke to CBC News about the risks and implications of individuals with extremist or white supremacist views having ties to the military: “They are getting access to training, weapons, secure intelligence, that is not meant to be shared with others”. She also added that extremism within militaries around the world has long been a concern, noting that armed forces typically don’t continually vet their members for radicalization.

The Department of National Defence (Canada) is investigating the identified individuals, also telling CBC News “that military personnel are expected to uphold the valued of the Armed Forces in their online activities”.
