Is patience waning with efforts to moderate content on social media?

ISD CEO Sasha Havlicek spoke to the World Economic Forum after the high-profile arrest of Telegram founder Pavel Durov. In the interview, Sasha unpacked how patience is waning with the poor level of content moderation on Telegram and almost all platforms. She pointed out that some governmental bodies are pushing towards regulation, with a specific nod towards the EU’s Digital Services Act.

Sasha acknowledged that with regulation, “there’s a danger in over-stoking” free-speech absolutists, and it’s important to recognise those concerns.

“So it’s going to be a tricky few years ahead,” she said.
