RTE: How are young men are being radicalised online

Ciarán O’Connor, a senior analyst at ISD, joined RTE’s Saturday with Colm Ó Mongáin to talk about the new Netflix docuseries, “Adolescence” and how young men are being radicalised online.

“More and more young men are being drawn into online spaces that fuel anger, grievances and in some cases, extremism,” Ciarán explained. “Much of this radicalisation is happening in plain sight, through social media platforms like YouTube, TikTok and Discord.”

Ciarán also spoke about why radicalising communities may appeal to young men as they “offer a kind of belonging” and “help young men make sense of their own frustrations.”

“If you’re a young man who feels alienated or powerless, these spaces can feel quite empowering,” he added.
