May 18, 2022

Policy Digests offer an overview of the latest digital policy developments in Digital Policy Lab (DPL) member countries, including regulatory and non-regulatory initiatives aiming to combat online harms such as disinformation, hate speech, illegal, extremist or terrorist content. In addition to general updates, each Policy Digest provides a snapshot of topic-specific schemes relevant to the upcoming DPL session.

Section 2 focuses on the role of algorithmic amplification of harmful content on platforms. As part of the discussion on risk assessment and mitigation frameworks, the section presents summaries of selected initiatives and proposed digital policy interventions that incorporate platforms’ algorithmic systems and design choices within their scope. Additionally, the section outlines emerging ideas from academia and civil society.
