Extremists are using AI to build propaganda — and plan attacks
Extremists are increasingly using artificial intelligence to both produce propaganda and help plan their future attacks.
Deutsche Welle (DW) recently covered AI’s expanding role within extremist organizations, and ISD’s Moustafa Ayad spoke on how the jihad ecosystem, in particular, has harnessed the power of this new technology.
Moustafa explained that ISIS media has published guidelines on how to utilize AI, which has ranged from making memes and dance videos on TikTok to compiling propaganda.
“Then there is also a special group that tries to break through the AI barrier (jailbreak), using it to support operational planning and attack readiness. The spectrum is very wide,” Moustafa said. “That’s where the problem lies. AI can simultaneously accelerate the propaganda process and support planning and operational readiness.”
DW’s piece was subsequently picked up by Brazilian, Kosovan and Portuguese outlets.
