Recent US perpetrators indicate shift in extremist landscape, rise in nihilistic violence

The perpetrators behind the recent wave of violence in the US have lacked a recognizable agenda or specific ideology. 

Instead, these individuals fall the new ‘nihilistic violent extremist’ category, as they express contempt for humanity and a desire to see the collapse of civilization. 

ISD’s Cody Zoschak spoke to The Washington Post about these attackers and their misalignment with existing infrastructure: 

“We’re seeing a lot of cases in which the existing definitions did not apply.”
