ISD’s Melanie Smith speaks with PolitiFact about Russian influence targeting the US election

Melanie Smith, Director of Research at ISD US, spoke with PolitiFact about attempts by Russian organizations to sow distrust in US elections. Although the most recent campaign launched by Russia targeted elections, Melanie explains that the purpose of Russian interference is “undermining institutions in the U.S., as well as the U.S.’s reputation internationally.”

“Elections tend to just be a flashpoint moment that they put extra (resources) behind, but we need to consider their impact long-term, too,” she said.
