The Indonesian police recently uncovered that 70 students were members of social media groups affiliated with the True Crime Community (TCC). 

In their reporting of this investigation, two Indonesian outlets—the Jakarta Globe and the Voice of Indonesia—cited ISD’s research on TCC. 

Both outlets used ISD’s definition of the TCC as a loose online subculture interested in true crime media, highlighting the range of individuals involved with this space.

“While many true-crime forums focus on analysis or storytelling, ISD warns that more extreme corners of TCC spaces can glorify perpetrators, circulate violent imagery, and encourage imitation.” 

The Jakarta Globe also highlighted ISD’s investigative research identifying school shooters and potential attackers linked to TCC forums.
