Confrontation of UK opposition leader sparks debate on the mainstreaming of extremist narratives

Tim Squirrell, ISD’s Head of Communications and Editorial, spoke to LBC’s Eddie Mair about mainstreamed extremist narratives and the hybrid threat landscape in the wake of an incident in which Leader of the Opposition Sir Keir Starmer was confronted by protestors outside Parliament repeating a false allegation that he had failed to prosecute the paedophile Jimmy Savile during his tenure running the Crown Prosecution Service.

ISD has been researching and explaining hybrid threats since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, most recently publishing a series of studies of anti-lockdown movements across countries including Canada, Ireland, Germany, and the Netherlands.
