Aoife Gallagher on far-right disinformation and its impact on migrant violence in post-riot Ireland

ISD Senior Analyst Aoife Gallagher featured in the Irish Mail on Sunday discussing the dangers of rising disinformation spread by far-right groups online, which falsely links incidents to migrants and can incite real-world violence. Her interview also spotlights her recent analysis of far-right activity following the November 2023 Dublin riots. In it, she identified 61 incidents violence, intimidation and harassment directed at migrants, refugees and asylum seekers. Many of these incidents were posted online and encouraged others to act similarly and post online to gain “clout”.

Her analysis also featured in Irish online newspaper The Journal and RTÉ Ireland.
