In recent years, Russian clandestine activities against the US in Mexico have increased—a trend reminiscent of the Cold War years. 

The revival of Russian covert operations—including propaganda and information operations—from Mexico was confirmed by ISD’s Bret Schafer in an interview with DW News. 

Bret discussed Russian-state controlled media’s high presence throughout Latin America, including  RT media. Specifically, Bret highlighted that “a renowned Mexican journalism club has awarded awards to RT journalists for their coverage of the ‘special military operation,’” referencing Moscow’s term to describe its invasion of Ukraine.
