Nathan Doctor on the shutdown of CrowdTangle ahead of US elections

This week saw the closure by Meta of CrowdTangle, an analytics tool that allowed researchers, journalists, and others to observe the spread of information on Facebook and Instagram.

ISD’s Senior Digital Methods Manager Nathan Doctor spoke during an online event at the Center for American Progress about the impact of rolling back data monitoring during a critical period for tracking disinformation spread by foreign influence campaigns ahead of the November US elections.

Nathan also spoke to POLITICO, highlighting that the shutdown of CrowdTangle is occurring “across platforms” and has a “stifling” effect on disinformation researchers, with potentially worrying impacts.
