Confronting misinformation as it spreads across multiple platforms

ISD Senior Research Manager Jared Holt spoke to The New York Times about the challenges of confronting misinformation online as content moves across platforms.

“Nothing on the internet exists in a silo,” Jared said. “Whatever happens in alt-platforms like Gab or Telegram or Truth [Social] makes its way back to Facebook and Twitter and others.”

The article uses former US President Trump as an example citing his ban on mainstream networks Twitter and Facebook. However, the former president’s content, shared often on his Truth Social domain, makes its way on the very platforms that banned him through activity like sharing screenshots of the content, among other ways.
