Arson attack on PA Governor’s residence highlights ongoing rise in US political violence

Katherine Keneally, director of threat analysis and prevention at ISD US, spoke to The Hill about the ongoing rise in political violence in the US over the last few years, following a recent arson attack targeting Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro in April.

Katherine noted that while heightened political tensions in the US are contributing to the surge in violence, they are not the only factor. She pointed to underlying issues such as mental health struggles, financial stress, and the limited moderation of social media platforms as additional drivers.

“There is very limited, arguably no moderation, when it comes to the spread of false and misleading content online, and we are saying that this content is influencing people to engage in violence,” she told The Hill.
