The far right hijacks recent tragedies to promote false narratives

ISD’s Ciarán O’Connor was quoted in the Irish Examiner’s piece on the shooting in Carlow on June 1.

Ciarán describes how the far right co-opted this tragic event to proliferate their ideology by spreading falsehoods immediately after the attack—contributing negatively to the ongoing information war.

“They are knowingly contributing to disinformation around this incident given there is simply no way for first responders to establish what facts are known at a scene in that timeframe, let alone people following viral Whatsapp and social media posts from a distance,” Ciarán said.
