Online and offline anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric rising in Western countries

After decades of progress for the LGBTQ+ community, recent years have seen hard-won rights under attack and steadily clawed back.

ISD released an article exploring this rise in anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric which was covered widely in media across the globe. Outlets in the UK, Ireland, Italy and the United States reported on ISD’s findings, which showed how a range of ideological and extremist communities have begun focusing their attention on LGBTQ+ individuals, contributing to a clear escalation in threats, harassment and real-world violence.

The articles, as well as ISD’s research, examined the role social media platforms have played in this spread of hate, finding a connection between online hate and offline violence.

The full articles are available Pink News, GCN, OUTtv, Gay.it and LGBTQ Nation.
