Hate in plain sight: Extremists unchecked activity spreads on TikTok

Ciarán O’Connor’s research on the state of hate on TikTok is featured in this article by POLITICO Europe. The report “Hatescape: An In-Depth Analysis of Extremism and Hate Speech on TikTok,” takes a look at how the social media platform is used to promote hatred and glorify extremism and terrorism. Among key findings, many videos were found to freely promote white supremacy, and support extremist or terrorist individuals or organisations.

Further commentary by Ciarán on the report can be found on USA Today, Jewish Insider, PBS and The Journal.

Ciarán O’Connor is an Analyst at ISD, working in the Research and Policy unit. You can find a range of his work in our publications section.
