From rioters to influencers? J6 figures capitalize on attention, but “stardom” may be out of reach

A recent article in The Washington Post identifies over four dozen “J6ers” attempting to profit from their participation in the Capitol riot. ISD senior analyst Jared Holt spoke to the paper about the phenomenon of former rioters hocking merchandise, participating in podcasts and launching speaking tours.

Jared explained that while some rioters are cashing in on the political moment, most Americans still reject what happened—and attempts to gain notoriety are likely to fall flat too.

“I don’t think bona fides from being arrested and released for participating in the Capitol riot are enough in this political moment to catapult anybody into the stardom they’re hoping for.”
