Cyber Front Z, the pro-Kremlin troll army spreading propaganda online

Tim Squirrell spoke to Al Jazeera English‘s news programme about Cyber Front Z, a Russian troll farm accused of spreading pro-Kremlin misinformation on social media. Drawing on research from ISD’s Julia Smirnova, he discussed the history of trolling tactics as a Kremlin weapon in the information war, highlighting that one of the main developments in the most recent conflict is that these groups now appear to be openly operating. Cyber Front Z not only posts links to social media posts to encourage its followers to post propaganda in the comments; it has also begun to host live events and discussions in St Petersburg.
