Three people were killed at a San Diego mosque on Monday, May 18, and the two attackers shared a video from the shooting and documents citing extremist ideology. 

ISD analysts obtained a 75-page document and a graphic video, which CNN highlighted in its coverage of the event. The outlet also shared ISD’s analysis of the attack and the extremist ideology. 

Regarding the attackers’ ideology, ISD Senior Manager Cody Zoschak explained that their explicit endorsement of neo-Nazism differentiates them from nihilistic extremists.

“There’s pretty strong indications that these folks were neo-Nazis, specifically militant accelerationists,” Cody said. “They display an ideological knowledge that shows some engagement in these circles for an extended period of time.”
