New study from ISD and the Naumann Foundation on AI and its use in politics and the media

14/03/2024

The EU regulation on artificial intelligence (AI) comes at an important time.

The use of AI has a significant impact on political communication and trust in the media. In a new study, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom and the Institute for Strategic Dialogue examine how these challenges can be dealt with. How can artificial intelligence be used legitimately and transparently within political discourse, election campaigns and the media? How can we recognise manipulated images and deepfakes that are specifically used for disinformation?

We need clear, transparent rules and education in order to utilise the opportunities offered by the use of artificial intelligence so that people trust democratic institutions and the media.

The new study “Political communication and media trust in the age of generative AI” by Christian Schwieter and Milan Gandhi and the Institute for Strategic Dialogue on behalf of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom analyses these important questions.
