The Together for Safety webinars were a series of online talks to tackle pressing urban safety and security challenges with a key focus on addressing hate, polarisation and extremism across the Nordics and in cities around the world. They spotlighted mayors and city leaders, policymakers, practitioners, youth, civil society and subject matter experts.

Digital Policy Lab ’20 – Companion Papers

The Digital Policy Lab (DPL) is a new inter-governmental working group focused on charting the regulatory and policy path forward to prevent and counter disinformation, hate speech, extremism and terrorism online. From September 2020 to January 2021, the first sessions of the DPL took place. These sessions were accompanied by a set of policy briefs and discussion papers, which can be accessed here.

Layers of Lies: A First Look at Irish Far-Right Activity on Telegram

This report aims to provide a first look into Irish far-right activity on the messaging app, Telegram, where the movement is operating both as identifiable groups and influencers, and anonymously-run channels and groups. This report was produced in conjunction with TheJournal.ie and its investigative platform Noteworthy.ie as part of their Eyes Right series.

MENA Monitor: Arabic COVID-19 Vaccine Misinformation Online

This report examines the nature and scale of COVID-19 vaccine mis- and disinformation among Arabic-language communities in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) on Facebook. Included is a case study analysing the output of a dubious disinformation hub that masquerades as a think tank as well as detailed findings on leading trends within vaccine misinformation communities in MENA.

COVID-19 : aperçu de la défiance anti-vaccinale sur les réseaux sociaux

La présente étude présente une analyse quantitative et qualitative de la désinformation et des théories complotistes anti-vaccins repérées dans les contenus publiquement accessibles sur Twitter et Facebook entre le 1er août 2020 et le 1er février 2021, identifie les discours principaux, événements qui alimentent des pics de discussion en ligne et les acteurs les plus actifs dans la propagation de discours anti-vaccins.

La pandémie de COVID-19: terreau fertile de la haine en ligne

Ce rapport s’intéresse à la corrélation entre la pandémie et propagation du discours haineux en ligne. En s’appuyant sur la méthodologie de la Cartographie de la Haine en ligne, l’ISD a opéré une analyse en détail du discours anti-arabe/magrébin, anti-musulman, anti-asiatique et anti-refugié/migrant. Cette étude fait le constat que la pandémie a alimenté des discours visant à stigmatiser certaines communautés minoritaires en France.

The Long Tail of Influence Operations: A Case Study on News Front

This case study examines two websites and two blogging accounts which appear to be linked to News Front, a Crimean-based news organisation previously accused of being a source of pro-Kremlin disinformation and influence operations. While the impact of the site’s activity is low, the case study provides a glimpse into the inner workings of the broader disinformation ecosystem and sheds light on the long tail of state-linked online assets.

Community Resilience Study: Kumanovo, North Macedonia

As part of its Strong Cities Network regional engagement in Kumanovo, North Macedonia, the Institute for Strategic Dialogue conducted a representative survey of the population to better understand local dynamics of resilience. The findings from this study will serve as an evidence base to target Community Action Team activities listed in the Local Action Plan for Preventing Violent Extremism.
