Sky News Australia deemed ‘hub’ for climate misinformation

ISD’s report Deny, Deceive, Delay: Documenting and Responding to Climate Disinformation at COP26 and Beyond has been featured in The Guardian, shedding light on the role of Australia’s Sky News in spreading climate misinformation.

The report noted that Sky News was a “content hub” for “influencers, sceptics and outlets” peddling climate-scepticism and “delayism”.

“Our analysis has shown how a small but dedicated community of actors boast disproportionate reach and engagement across social media, reaching millions of people worldwide and bolstered by legacy print, broadcast and radio outlets”.

Sky News forms part of News Corp, Rupert Murdoch’s media empire in Australia. The outlet denied the claims made in the report, telling the Guardian that they “continue to encourage debate”.
