Pressure on platforms to curb election misinformation weeks away from midterms
Two weeks out from the US midterms, election-related dis- and misinformation trends seem to be on the rise on social media platforms. Activists from over 60 groups have sent a letter to the CEOs of Meta, TikTok, Twitter and YouTube urging the platforms to be more vigilant.
ISD’s Head of Elections, Jiore Craig, features in Axios speaking on past election misinformation issues and how platforms continue to fail to address the issues.
“There is so much pressure on the social media companies and yet they seem only responsive to a fraction of it,” Jiore said. “It is worthwhile to all of these groups to apply this pressure, as long as companies remain the only entities who can immediately impact this at scale, at any moment.”
