Netherlands fights back and holds conspiracists accountable in the case Bodegraven

ISD Senior Analyst Ciaran O’Connor offers insights to WIRED on the case of Micha Kat, a Dutch national recently jailed on charges of sedition after orchestrating a QAnon-related campaign in the Netherlands. Kat had accused the town of Bodegraven of covering up a satanic pedophile ring in the 1980s, which had inspired sympathisers to travel to the local cemmentary and frightened some locals of further escalation. Ciarán explained how legal efforts like these brought were a “positive” accountability mechanism. “Other conspiracy theorists, who engage in dangerous belief systems that might endanger members of the public, might see this action and think twice about spreading lurid conspiracy theories.”
