ISD’s Jared Holt speaks to Just Security about the impact of pardoning January 6 offenders
Jared Holt, senior research analyst at ISD-US, spoke to Just Security about Trump’s pardoning of January 6 offenders.
“The decision to award pardons and commuted sentences to people jailed for the Capitol riot could be internalized by many extremist movements as permission to attempt openly organizing on a larger national scale again,” Jared explained. He noted that “in the week since the pardons were issued, we’ve already seen extremist movement groups like the Proud Boys try to capitalize on the moment to recruit new members.”
“One big thing I’m watching for in the coming months is whether extremist movement groups will latch on to official efforts taken by the Trump administration—particularly those surrounding immigration,” Jared added.
