The Strong Cities Network hosted the online event Safe City Governance: The Role of Networks and Alliances, as part of the Together for Safety webinar series.

This series of online talks present and discuss pressing safety and security issues with a key focus on how to tackle hate, polarisation and extremism globally. Across the world, we are witnessing our principal values of democracy, pluralism and universal application of human rights put under pressure with extremism, hate, polarisation and misinformation on the rise. Together for Safety aims to reach and inspire national and local leaders, professionals and youth with new ideas to take action in their community to push back against these rising threats.

This session examined what cities/regions can do to inspire each other and ensure a horizontal knowledge-sharing and approach to extremism prevention. The session looked at three different levels: national, regional and local alliances, with a particular focus on building local resilience and social cohesion through engaging CSOs.
