Digital democracy: Safeguarding communities and elections

The Strong Cities Network’s March 2022 webinar was Safeguarding local democracies: Countering foreign interference and online misinformation. The event explored how cities can engage their citizens in democratic processes and conversations, especially in the context of foreign influence and harmful interferences in national and local elections.

Speakers also discussed the convergence between the digital and physical worlds as a way to deepen democracy and help cities prevent polarisation, hate speech and threats towards minorities.

This session formed part of the online discussion series Together for Safety, by the SCN and Nordic Safe Cities. Since 2021, the initiative has brought together thousands of experts, leaders and practitioners with the aim of strengthening communities to promote democracy, pluralism and the universal application of human rights.
